Playlists for the Labyrinth
The songs included in these playlists were all recorded by the St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church musicians during the early days of the Covid pandemic. Although we were unable to worship in person, our musicians still wanted to be able to offer music in our Zoom services. So our vocalists recorded their parts individually on their home computers, and the accompaniments were either recorded on the organ while carefully distanced at the church building or created entirely digitally via software. The parts were then layered together with GarageBand. This created some interesting challenges, but also some unique opportunities - in that a vocal quartet could sing a song intended with eight (or more!) parts, or that a person could record a duet along with themselves!
But regardless, all this music was created with deepest love for the StGs and greater Deerfield community, with longing for a time when we could return to raising our voices together. Even now that we’re back to worshipping together (both onsite and online now!), we are still grateful for the efforts of our musicians to keep us singing even in the darkest of times.
All of our music is covered under our CCLI license #11167839.

All the songs in this playlist offer texts that serve as a prayer. Some are actual prayers written by familiar historical figures - St. Richard of Chichester, St. Francis, Mother Theresa, and more. Others contain short phrases that might serve as a breath meditation on your walk (“even with darkness sealing us in / we breathe your name”), or mantras to hold in your heart for the rest of your day (“let my mourning turn to song”).
