Parish Newsletter

Welcome to the weekly parish newsletter of St. Gregory's Episcopal Church in Deerfield, Illinois.

CHILDREN’S SKIT – MAY 6 AT 9AM

The children will be presenting to all of us a creative interpretation of Jesus’s Banquet Parable on May 6 at 9:00 am. Please plan to be at church (you could come after running the Deer Dash!) at 9am to support the children, and to enjoy fun treats and activities. This is a treasured St. G’s tradition you don’t want to miss.

DEER DASH – St. G’s REPRESENTS! – MAY 6 AT 7AM

Want to have fun, do something good for your body, and support our community? Join fellow Gregorians in running or walking the Deer Dash 1mile, 5K, or 10K on Sunday, May 6 starting at 7am.  Mother Anne is running (just the 5K – so she can be here for the 8am – which means you can too!! No shower necessary. J), so let her know if you will be running. Register here: https://www.deerfieldparks.org/event/deer-dash/

PENTECOST PREPARATIONS AND SAVE THE DATE– MAY 20

Pentecost is the celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit, and a joyful end to the Easter season. This year, we will celebrate Pentecost with prayer flags strung in the nave of the church, and with a PICNIC following the 10a service! The youth have already planned a very fun assortment of games and activities (teaser: there will be a giant sling shot game and flamingo ring toss!), so we need adults to organize and plan the prayer flag execution, and the picnic itself. If you can help with either, please email Mother Anne anne@stgregoryschurch.org . It’s going to be a great day!

ST GREGORY’S BOOK CLUB, NEXT MEETING – CANCELLED FOR TONIGHT

Because of the weather tonight, the meeting to discuss “News of the World” has been cancelled.

VESTRY MEETING NEWS

At its meeting on April 10, your Vestry:

·         Discussed St. Gregory’s Emergency Action Plan.   Our Safety Team has been hard at work on developing a comprehensive blueprint that covers a range of safety strategies for fire, natural disasters, medical emergences, shooter situations and other issues.  The team has reviewed Safety Plans from other churches nationwide, and also received input from Deerfield Police and Fire Departments.  This is an ongoing discussion and work to keep our congregation safe.

·         Reviewed engaging visual image options that will represent St. Gregory’s to the community.   It was agreed we need a recognizable symbol that we can utilize across all communication platforms such as social media, print materials and outdoor signage. We have a dedicated communication team working on symbol and design coordination for this exciting initiative.

·         Help us get to 100% Pledge Card submissions.  Nearly 70% of pledges are received and we want to encourage the remaining parishioners to get their pledge cards in to help us achieve 100%.  Please show your support and commitment to improve our Family Ministry Program, Faith in Action Ministry (outreach program) and other ministries by turning in your 2018 pledge card as soon as possible. We thank everyone for their support to keep our Church strong throughout 2018.

Pentecost (the Feast day that celebrates the gift of the Holy Spirit, and marks the transition between Easter season and the season after Pentecost) is Sunday, May 20th. This year, we would like to continue the joyful prayer flags we did last year in the church, AND have a celebratory picnic outside, weather permitting! If you would like to help plan the prayer flag creation and implementation, AND/OR the picnic, please contact Mother Anne (anne@stgregoryschurch.org). It is going to be a great way to celebrate the gift of the Spirit and share that joy with the community!-\
