SUICIDE PREVENTION FORUM – SEPTEMBER 12TH 7:00PM

Suicide completion rates have surged to a 30-year high, and 1 in 4 people report a mental health crisis in their lives. In the US alone, over 121 individuals complete suicide on a daily basis.  Join us on September 12th as Hope for the Day (an organization started by Stevenson High Grads) helps us explore how we can be proactive in our community to break the silence around mental health, and prevent suicide completions. Lake County United will also share how we have helped bring mental health crisis centers to Lake County. This forum is also co-sponsored by Congregation BJBE, Holy Cross Catholic, and NorthShore Unitarian Church.

PUMPKINS ARRIVE - SEPTEMBER 29 AT 4:30 pm (approx)

Our semi truck will arrive with our pumpkins and we will need all hands on deck to unload! A pizza dinner will be served to all the workers when we are finished.  Please sign up in Founders' Hall so Shelley can text or call when we get more solid information about when the truck will arrive.

PUMPKIN RECIPE BOOK – SUPPLEMENT THE PATCH!

This year we would like to give our customers at the patch even more reason to buy our pumpkins so we are collecting pumpkin recipes to put in a small cook book to hand out to customers who spend more than $50 in our patch! Of course no cook book would be a St. Greg's Pumpkin cook book without Jean Schwarz's famous Pumpkin Bread recipe. She has agreed to let us lead with that one! Please get your recipes to Shelley (shelley@stgregoryschurch.org)  by September 11 so we can put the booklet together in time for opening day!

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SALLY CRAIG MEMORIAL LIBRARY

The Sally Craig Memorial Library has three new books by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry: The Power of Love, Crazy Christians, and Songs My Grandma Sang.  He is a powerful writer and the books are wonderful. We have two copies of each, so don't hesitate to come check them out.   Also new in the library is Meredith Woods Potter's book - written with her son Willis - about the Woods family's history, beginning with their Quaker origins.  It's a fascinating read for all, especially for those who know and love Meredith.  The books are displayed on the shelf just inside the door.

VESTRY MEETING NEWS

The Vestry met on August 13:

·      As part of St. Gregory’s Faith in Action initiative, the Vestry approved the allocation of $3,000 to Curt’s Cafe in Highland Park to support the opening and operation of their expansion into Lake County. Curt’s Cafe is a non-profit organization, founded in Evanston, which is dedicated to positively changing the futures of under-served young adults living in at-risk situations, including homelessness, food insecurity, dropped schooling and/or legal problems.

·      Our Youth Mission Trip to Michigan witnessed the amazing outreach programs of the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation (ECI) in Ann Arbor. As a result, the Youth group requested and received Vestry Approval to support ECI by donating $500 from our Faith in Action mission reserve.

·      The Invite, Welcome Connect Task Force had a retreat at the Church to kick off this exciting new ministry to help build on our strength of hospitality and be more intentional in gathering God’s people in and through St. Gregory’s and the broader community.  Please reach out to the Task Force (Jim Swager, Barb Schaper, Michele Appelbaum, Kelly Gearhart, Susan Zint and Jill Polzin) to see how you can help support this fun ministry.
