ROLLING, ROLLING, ROLLING, KEEP THOSE WHEELS ROLLING! – THIS SUNDAY AT 9AM

St. G’s is a special place of welcome and community. Would you like to help extend that love to parishioners who can’t get to church on their own, or who need help getting to a doctor’s appointment? Sunday the 28th at 9am  Robbie Boudreaux from Faith in Action Volunteers will talk about how we can help our worshiping community (and others around us if we desire) to help bring people together. Want to learn more? Explore the idea? Find out all that’s involved? Join us!

NICASA BACK TO SCHOOL FAIR - AUGUST 3 AT 10AM - 12:30PM.

Thank you to everyone who donated school supplies for this event. If you are interested in coming to the Fair, please sign up in Founder’s Hall or email shelley@stgregoryschurch.org.

RED BAGS TO FEED THE HUNGRY – AUGUST 4

Our Red Bags to Feed the Hungry on August 4 will go to Vernon Township.  They have asked for instant potatoes, canned peaches and pears, tuna and canned chicken and condiments.   Grocery gift cards are always welcome as well.    Keep in mind that hunger does not take a summer vacation!

BACK TO SCHOOL GAME NIGHT – AUGUST 16 AT 6PM

Sign up for our Back To School Game Night with Christ United Methodist Church! We will be joining together for another game night on the last Friday before school starts again (August 16 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Christ UMC). This is a great time to get families together and avoid cooking dinner! All ages are welcome. Sign up in Founder’s Hall. Main dishes will be provided and we will pot luck sides and desserts.

BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS - AUGUST 18 AT 10AM

Save the date for the Blessing of the Backpacks! All students and teachers are invited to bring your backpacks (or another bag of choice) to be blessed during the 10am service on August 18th. As you embark on another year of learning together, take our prayers with you!

WELCOME BACK TO CARUSO AND WILMOT STUDENTS/PARENTS - AUGUST 19, 7:30-9:00AM

Let’s welcome our elementary and middle school neighbors back to school! We will have coffee, juice, doughnut holes (of course), and fun signs to use for photo opportunities. This is a great opportunity for St. Gregory’s to tell our neighbors how much they mean to us – so please join us on the corner of Wilmot and Deerfield!

EXTEND HOSPITALITY WITH FOOD! – HOST COFFEE HOUR – DATES AVAILABLE IN AUGUST

If Coffee Hour is the first chance visitors have to really get to know our parish, and the best chance we all have to get to know each other better. Community is built over food and drink, just like Jesus did everywhere he went. Some hosts bring their own food (we all love the assortments that include protein and sweets!), and others thaw food from the freezer. The main responsibility is to set out coffee, mugs and food, then greet people at coffee hour, and clean up afterwards. If you are interested in hosting, or would like to co-host with someone else, sign up in Founder’s Hall, or email Mother Anne anne@stgregoryschurch.org .

FAVORITE HYMNS... AND SECULAR SONGS TOO!

The music of our faith adds a familiar and meaningful texture to the most sacred moments of our lives - baptisms, weddings, funerals, liturgical feast days, and many others. They become inextricably intertwined with our life stories, and it is those stories we want to share this season of Pentecost! Once again, I'm asking for submissions of your favorite hymns from the Red Hymnal or the Music Issue. However, this time I'd like you to include not just a short sentence about why you like the hymn, but a story from YOUR life about why it means something to you, how you first came to hear it, etc! Length is not an issue... help us get to know each other through our love of music! If you submitted a hymn last year, feel free to repeat or pick something new - just tell us your story!

BUT WAIT... there's more! :) In a related vein: our Broadway Sunday was such a hit a few months ago that we're planning to occasionally hold other Sunday services with themed music... and we'd like your input! So: what songs - even those that aren't explicitly sacred in nature - feel like hymns to you? What songs speak to your heart, fill you with joy or gratitude for God's gifts, or bring you closer to God... perhaps even without mentioning God by name at all? Some examples might include songs like All You Need is Love by the Beatles, Circle of Life from The Lion King, Defying Gravity from Wicked, Faithfully by Journey, or Happy by Pharrell Williams. Share your favorite song from ANY genre, and - just maybe - we'll all sing them together in a future Sunday service. :)

There will be a place in the Sunday bulletin for you to handwrite your submissions and give them to me in person, but feel free to also email them to me at kathryn@stgregoryschurch.org.
