ST G’S FAITH IN ACTION LISTENING SESSION – NOVEMBER 11, 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM

The St. Gregory’s Faith in Action Team will lead a Parish-Wide Listening Session to help discern a focus and direction for our mission work.  We need everyone’s input on how we can best “radiate God’s grace” in our communities.  Lunch will be served.  Contact Charlene (847-945-1678) by Friday at noon to sign up.

LAST CALL FOR CHRISTMAS BASKET SPONSORS

Sunday, November 11 is the last day to sign up to sponsor one of the remaining families or seniors for the Christmas basket program. The names of the remaining families/seniors that are not sponsored by St. Gregory’s will be returned to ReVive. Additional information will be sent out later this week.  As done last year, there will be cardboard boxes available for you to use to pack your gifts as well as the labels to use on your boxes.  If you have any questions, contact Marilyn Knilans (marilyn17@comcast.net, 847-945-5068). Thank you to those who have chosen to participate.

NOVEMBER YOUTH GROUP NEWS

The Youth Group trip to the city scheduled for November 12 has been postponed due to school conflicts. We will reschedule for one of the days off around Thanksgiving. Please reply to Shelley's Survey Monkey with the day that works best for your family.

SSSSHHHHHHHHHH! Don't tell the parents! Youth group is making gifts on Sunday November 11. These gifts will be appropriate for parents, teachers, coaches, or even the family for which we will be doing a Christmas Basket!

The Youth Group will be sponsoring one of the Christmas Baskets again this year. Please have each student bring $20 to Youth Group or to Shelley by November 18. We will do the shopping together at 11:15 that day. See Shelley's email for details about our family.

INTERFAITH THANKSGIVING SERVICE – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 4 PM

St. Gregory’s will join with other houses of worship in the Deerfield area for an Interfaith Thanksgiving service at North Shore Unitarian Church, 2100 Half Day Road, Bannockburn. As we strive to be “One Community, Many Voices”, this time together will remind us of our unity rather than our differences. The once a year special event is sponsored by Religious Leaders United.

THANKSGIVING LEFTOVER FEAST – SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 11:15 AM

Bring your thanksgiving leftovers or make something new and we will celebrate Thanksgiving with our St. Gregory’s family. After worship on November 25, we will eat together in Founders Hall . If you can help to set up or coordinate for this event , please contact Anne (anne@stgregoryschurch.org).

WEDNESDAY MORNING WORSHIP & BREAKFAST TIME CHANGE TO 8:00 AM BEGINNING DECEMBER 5

Beginning December 5, the Wednesday morning service followed by a continental breakfast will be held at a new time – 8 am! Please join us.

ADVENT MESSIAH CHOIR

Come raise your voices in celebrating the expectant joy of Advent! Each Sunday in December, join the choir in singing an offertory anthem selected from one of the greatest masterworks, Handel's Messiah - culminating in a singalong Hallelujah Chorus with the brass quintet on Christmas Eve. The selections chosen are accessible to anyone with a little practice, so ALL are welcome!

If you're interested in singing with the choir during Advent and/or at the two Christmas Eve services, please contact Kathryn at kathryn@stgregoryschurch.org for a detailed schedule, practice recordings, and music. You don't have to come to all rehearsals, but the more you attend the more prepared you'll feel.

THE DIOCESE OF CHICAGO’S ANNUAL CONVENTION IS NOVEMBER 16-17

The representatives from St. Gregory’s that were elected at the Annual Meeting are Synda Nelson, Cyndi Millspaugh, and Jon Dutcher. Clergy also attend. To read about the issues coming up at convention, and to see who is standing for election to Diocesan office, find it all online:

https://www.episcopalchicago.org/our-diocese/governance/diocesan-convention .

Please pray for our representatives and clergy as they learn, deliberate, and vote on our behalf.

BOOK CLUB – DECEMBER 5, 7 PM

Because of Thanksgiving, the next Book Club meeting will be held on December 5. “Holy Rover” by Lori Erickson will be discussed. Several copies are available in the church library. The Book Club normally meets on the 3rd Wednesdays of each month at 7 pm in the Conference Room, at St. Gregory’s.

NEXT COMMUNITY MEALS – SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16, NOON

Save the date! Our next turn to serve is Sunday, December 16th at 12 noon.

EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN

Safety and security at St Gregory's Church is very important.

We now have an Emergency Action Plan That was developed by the Vestry. The plan is available for review in the Library, Kitchen, Reception office, Charlene's office, and the Sacristy.

The Emergency Action Plan (EAP) includes safety procedures for Tornado, Fire, Medical Emergencies, Traumatic Incidents, Hostile Intruders, and other potential emergencies.

St Gregory's Staff, Liturgical Ministers, Lectors, Ushers, Altar Guild and Church School Teachers have been briefed on the procedures, and more training is planned.

Any questions please contact John Welker or Jim Swager.

INTERFAITH SYMPOSIUM AT BJBE – TUESDAYS, 10-11:30 AM

In an America that seems to be fracturing along cultural, political, and geographical lines, we have the opportunity to act bravely and wisely by learning with and from people who think and act differently than we do. Over the course of this year, we will hear from clergy and leaders from many faith traditions. We will learn about their history, their inspirational texts, the major tenets of their theology, and what teachings their tradition can bring to bear on the most important questions and challenges of religious life in 21st Century America. Symposium will be taught by some of Chicagoland’s leading clergy, including our rector, Anne Jolly! BJBE is inviting members of congregations to join them in this informative series. We hope we will get to know our neighbors through learning, conversation, and, of course, a little nosh. You are welcome to any and all of the sessions!

Registration is available online: https://bjbe.shulcloud.com/form/symposium1819.
