THE GREEN BOOK – A PLAY SPONSORED BY INTERFAITH CLERGY – OCTOBER 13, 7PM

The Green Book is a two-act play written by Calvin Alexander Ramsey about the difficulties African-Americans faced while traveling during the Jim Crow era. It is based on The Negro Motorist Green Book, a manual directing Blacks to “safe” restaurants, hotels, and gas stations. Published form 1936-1963, this now obsolete guide was once widely used to buffer Blacks from segregated facilities in the South and throughout the country. Ramsey interviewed scores of elderly African Americans, who recalled emotions of period and fear while traveling which are recaptured in this play.

Pegasus Theatre Chicago, the recipient of 77 Joseph Jefferson awards, will perform the Play

Saturday, October 13 at 7pm at First Presbyterian Church, Deerfield.

Tickets are $10, and available at St. G’s parish office, or $12 at the door.

INTERFAITH SYMPOSIUM AT BJBE - EVERY TUESDAY - OCTOBER 2-FEBRUARY 12, 10-11:30AM

In an America that seems to be fracturing along cultural, political, and geographical lines, we have the opportunity to act bravely and wisely by learning with and from people who think and act differently than we do. Over the course of this year, we will hear from clergy and leaders from many faith traditions. We will learn about their history, their inspirational texts, the major tenets of their theology, and what teachings their tradition can bring to bear on the most important questions and challenges of religious life in 21st Century America. Symposium will be taught by some of Chicagoland’s leading clergy, including our rector, Anne Jolly! BJBE is inviting members of congregations to join them in this informative series. We hope we will get to know our neighbors through learning, conversation, and, of course, a little nosh. You are welcome to any and all of the sessions!

Registration is available online: https://bjbe.shulcloud.com/form/symposium1819.
