Dear St. Gregory's,

I am so excited to accept the position of Family Minister at St. Gregory's! For those of you who have not met me yet, I am the proud mom of two grown daughters: Gracie and Ruthie. Grace will be joining me at St. Gregory's and Ruthie will stay at University of Arizona to finish her senior year.  I have worked in church ministry for over 20 years, serving at locations in Washington, DC, Denver and most recently in Scottsdale, AZ. I can't wait to move before the temperatures reach 115!  I went to high school and college in Wisconsin so I am not totally unprepared for an Illinois winter.  My most recent job was as Director of Children, Family and Youth Ministries at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity where my most enduring contributions were to set up a VBS program (in it's 6th year) and create a young adults group. I enjoy kids of all ages and empathize with today's parents who are juggling so many activities and issues.

I look forward to getting to know you all better so we can co-create an exciting and vibrant program for our families. Truly it is the best job to be able to create the space where young people feel safe to explore who and whose they are! I am thrilled at the opportunity to work along side so many dedicated volunteers as you help our children see the face of God in our church!

Shelley Byrnes
