THE NATIVITY COMES TO LIFE - SUNDAY, DECEMBER 17, 10AM SERVICE

For those of you who have a part, on Saturday, December 16, from 9am - 11am, there will be a full dress rehearsal. This year we are also looking to mentor someone who would like to lead the Christmas pageant next year. If interested, please contact Michele Appelbaum (appelbaums@comcast.net).

 

ST NICHOLAS BRUNCH – DECEMBER 17, 11:15AM

Join us for brunch on December 17 after the 10:00 service. Look for the sign-up sheet in Founders Hall to bring something to share or call Charlene in the office to let us know (847-945-1678).

 

DONATION ENVELOPES FOR SPECIAL CHRISTMAS MUSIC AND ALTAR FLOWERS AVAIABLE NOW

Please support the special Christmas music and musicians and special Christmas altar flowers by making a monetary donation in memory or thanksgiving of a loved one, a ministry, or any of God’s tremendous blessings. Pick up your envelope by the table outside of the Sacristy or in Founder’s Hall. Completed envelopes can be left in the basket. Contact Charlene (847-945-1678) to phone in your request to accompany your donation if you are unable to pick up an envelope. December 18th is the deadline in order to have your memorial or thanksgiving printed in the Christmas Eve bulletin.

 

ST. GREGORY’S NIGHT AT THE BULLS!

Curtis Baddeley has offered St. Gregory’s 40 seats at the Bulls game on Monday, December 18 at 7pm for the Bulls v. Philadelphia 76ers.  The first 40 requests will get tickets. Please email Meredith Potter (meredithpotter@comcast.net) and let her know how many tickets you would like. Friends and family are welcome. Go Bulls!!

 

LONGEST NIGHT SERVICE - WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 20, 7PM

The Longest Night Liturgy is designed to create a place for people who are not joyous this holiday season. We acknowledge that the holidays can be painful, and worship together in asking for God’s peace and grace. It is a beautiful, quiet liturgy for those in grief and sorrow.

 

SALLY CRAIG MEMORIAL LIBRARY – ADVENT READING

The Sally Craig Memorial Library has a number of books for Advent reading displayed on the shelves along the north wall of the library.  In addition, books in the 242 and 248 sections of the shelves make good reading, meditation, and prayer companions.  Check out our selection!

JANE HUSH POTTERY STILL AVAILABLE

Dear Friends: Did you buy some pottery at my recent show in Founder's Hall and wish you could buy some more items? Did you miss this event for one reason or another? Even though most of the items were sold, there are still many lovely pieces of all sorts - large, small, tall, short, colorful, subdued, textured, smooth! I am available on December 17 to sell and will meet of you after church, 11:30 am in Founder's Hall. If this Sunday doesn't work for you, call me (847-945-4233) and perhaps we can meet in the near future.

 

PADS AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH -NEXT TIME TO SERVE – JANUARY 1

Our next turn to serve is Monday, January 1; please see if you can reserve some time to love your neighbor as yourself. We will need the following items listed below. A sign up will be available soon.

·  Preparing casseroles (6) - using same recipe that we used in October

·  Serving (5 people)

·  Preparing/providing hard-boiled eggs - 5 dozen

 

ST GREGORY’S BOOK CLUB SELECTIONS

The Book Club will skip meeting in December because of the Longest Night Service, and will resume in January. 

On January 17, the book club will meet at 7 o'clock to discuss our spiritual selection: Bishop Jefferts Schori's book:”The Heartbeat of God:  Finding the Sacred in the Middle of Everything”. It is available - new and used - from both Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. In addition, Sue Koy ordered two copies for the church library. It is also available through the Northbrook Public Library consortium on inter-library loan. Hopefully with this information those who would like to read and join the discussion on this book will be able to secure a copy. 

The group also chose our classic selection for February 21: “Rebecca” by Daphne du Maurier.

FUN TIME HAD BY ALL AT WINTER DINNER PARTY

Fun party! Great Event and many thanks to Casey Kremer for set up and the fantastic picture board, Marilyn Knilans for tackling the ham and all of the wonderful people who brought the many tasty casseroles, salads and desserts. A special thanks to Blanche Esgar for set up and the wonderful chocolate mousse and helping with clean up. Lastly, David, Matthew and Scott Schaper for all of their help in serving and clean up. A special THANK YOU to our Joke Leader - our own Rev. Anne Jolly!!

THANKSGIVING SERVICE AND LEFTOVER FEAST

Our Thanksgiving worship service is Thanksgiving Day at 10 am. On Sunday after Thanksgiving (26th), we will have our 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Leftover Feast! Bring your leftovers, or make something new, and let’s celebrate Thanksgiving together as a parish family! WINTER DINNER PARTY – DECEMBER 2, 5PM

The nights are dark, and the air is cold, so let’s gather for warm food and fun! Bring family, friends, and anyone who likes to eat and have fun. Dinner will be potluck, and there is a sign up in Founder’s Hall. If there is no luck in your pot, come and have fun anyway. Beverages (including adult) will be provided. Let’s tell jokes and funny stories, and enjoy time together. For more information, contact Jean Schwarz.

 

INTERGENERATIONAL ADVENT WREATH MAKING PARTY – DECEMBER 3, 9 AM

Wreaths, and greens, and candles – oh my! Intergeneration fun as we assemble wreaths for Advent. All supplies are provided ($10 donation suggested as able), along with yummy snacks and fun with friends.

 

FEED THE HUNGRY – RED BAG COLLECTION – SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3

Our Feed the Hungry Red Bags on December 3 will go to Vernon Township.   Currently they are well stocked with food, but need laundry detergent (in the smaller size), dryer sheets, dish detergent, regular size shampoo and conditioner, shaving cream, feminine hygiene products and as always, grocery gift cards.

ReVive CHRISTMAS BOXES DUE – NOVEMBER 28

Please use markers when labeling the family code and box numbers.  Reminder - boxes are due at church by the end of the day, Tuesday, November 28th. .Helpers are needed on the morning of Thursday, November 30th to help load the ReVive truck with the boxes.  If you can help, please let me know.    And if you have any questions about your family, etc, contact me.   Thanks to one and all, Marilyn Knilans

Many thanks to our volunteers David Jolly, Lisa Halpin, Sybil TenEyck, Bill and Janet Foltz and Barbara, David, Matthew and Scott Schaper for preparing and serving a meal to our neighbors in Waukegan. Thanks to our dessert providers Mary Keller, Debbie Welker, Lisa Halpin, Sybil TenEyck, Scott and Elizabeth Hamilton and the Foltz family.  Our next turn to serve is Sunday, December 31st.

POTTERY SHOW A HUGH SUCCESS!

Dear Friends, Thank you, THANK you, THANK YOU! This past Saturday I deposited $2,800.00 raised for St. G's by my recent pottery show.  Thank you all who helped put this show together by wrapping, schlepping, unpacking, setting up, designing and posting that wonderful ad!, buying wine and nibbles for Opening Night,  AND,  all those who came, bought, enjoyed just looking at /  touching various pieces, visited with me, were cashiers or wrappers of purchases, and cleaner uppers, and packers afterwards .    That weekend was such fun!  No, the shelves were not emptied, but I am happy to have some left-overs to keep as future gifts or sales.     Gratefully, jane Hush
