August 15th, “Beneath a Scarlet Sky” by Mark Sullivan and September 19th, “Outliers: The Story of Success” by Malcolm Gladwell. All are welcome to join in lively discussion. COMMUNITY MEALS - AUGUST 12 FROM 12-4
St. Gregory’s has the opportunity to prepare and serve a warm meal to our neighbors in Waukegan. We gather at Christ Church, Waukegan after the 10a service at St. Gregory’s. We prepare a meal (menu already selected, and jobs easily assigned based on skill!), then serve the meal and interact with the neighbors who come to receive the food. This is a great opportunity to put our faith in action, and develop relationships with people in Waukegan. Children who are comfortable in a kitchen are welcome! Sign up sheets will be in Founders’ Hall, and help us make sure we have work for everyone to do.
BLESSING OF THE BACKPACKS - AUGUST 19 AT 10AM
Save the date for the Blessing of the Backpacks! All students and teachers are invited to bring your backpacks (or another bag of choice) to be blessed during the 10am service on August 19th. As you embark on another year of learning together, take our prayers with you!
WELCOME BACK TO CARUSO AND WILMOT STUDENTS/PARENTS - AUGUST 20 FROM 7:30-9:00AM
Let’s welcome our elementary and middle school neighbors back to school! We will have coffee, juice, doughnut holes (of course), and fun signs to use for photo opportunities. This is a great opportunity for St. Gregory’s to tell our neighbors how much they mean to us – so please join us on the corner of Wilmot and Deerfield!

VESTRY MEETING NEWS
Our Vestry met on June 19:
Welcoming Our New Family Minister: The Vestry gives a big thank you to all the parishioners who helped prepare the Marion House for our New Family Minister, Shelley and her family, painted her office, and came out on Friday, June 15, to help Shelley and her daughter Gracie, move into the Marion House. People joined in to unload their truck, and set up furniture in their new home. Preparing the house was a lot of work, and moving her in was a fun day filled with hospitality to welcome our newest members.
Replacing the kitchen’s existing Hobart Sanitizer: Several months ago, the Vestry approved the purchase and installation of a new Sanitizer for our kitchen. We have been eagerly awaiting its installation so we can return to using mugs and plates that aren’t paper! This month, the vestry approved some additional upgrades necessary for the installation, including a new kitchen sink, counter, and disposal. The work will begin this summer and be completed by fall. An upgrade to the electrical system will be included in the installation.
Keeping God’s People Safe: National and Diocesan guidelines require that all parishes adhere to Keeping God’s People Safe policies – ensuring that all people, especially our youngest people, are safe at church. The Family Ministry Design Team worked hard to create policies and procedures to bring and keep St. Gregory’s in compliance with these important policies. A special thanks to Julia Nelson, who used her incredible document writing skills to create two compliance documents that our Diocese will now use as the benchmark for all churches! We will begin work to implement these policies at St. Gregory’s over the summer.
The sick, and those who need prayer, especially… Michele Schmidt, Wendell Valiant, Tracy Dorgan, Michael Miller, Terry Cummings, Jean Cummings, Jane Hush, Nuala Kurokawa, Jake Linne, and Chris.
