·         GENIUS BAR in Founder’s Hall – Learn how to support St. Gregory’s online and share our amazing community with others.

PUMPKINS ARRIVE - SEPTEMBER 29 - 4:30 PM (approx)

Our semi-truck will arrive with our pumpkins and we will need all hands on deck to unload! A pizza dinner will be served to all the workers when we are finished.  Please sign up in Founders' Hall so Shelley can text or call when we get more solid information about when the truck will arrive.

RADIATING GOD’S GRACE WITH PUMPKIN BREAD!

Jean Schwarz’s famous pumpkin bread brings countless customers back to our Pumpkin Patch every year. Hundreds of loaves are sold, and Deerfield knows that this deliciousness is worth the trip. Last year, a group of people agreed to be let in on the recipe and joined Jean in baking loaves to be sold. Because of the volume of bread to be baked, we will once again invite those interested to be a part of this delicious evangelism ministry. We will have an informational meeting on Sunday, September 29th at 9am in Founders’ Hall. We will share the recipe, talk about logistics and scheduling, and cover important safety information. If you are interested in baking, but cannot be at this meeting, please email Charlene (parish@stgregoryschurch.org) so we can schedule another time to meet with you. Mouths are watering all over Deerfield – and waiting for you to start baking!

HARRY POTTER WEEKEND – FEBRUARY 15-17

Expecto Patronum!!! If you love Harry Potter (or want to understand why others do) plan to join us for a Harry Potter weekend at the Castle at Stronghold in Oregon, IL over President's Day weekend (February 15-17, 2020). There will be four churches combining for a weekend at Hogwarts! Adults with no kids are welcome. Families are welcome, and teens will have their own space too! Mark your calendars so you don't plan anything else for that weekend! Get ready for butter beer, chocolate frogs and Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans!

BOOK CLUB SELECTIONS – TONIGHT AT 7PM

All are welcome to join the St. G’s Book Club that meets in the Conference Room at 7pm.

Visitors and newcomers are welcome to join at any time.  You don’t need to live in Buffalo Grove!!

COMMUNITY MEALS: NEXT TIME TO SERVE – NOVEMBER 17

Debbie and John Welker, Sybil TenEyck, Suren Sinnaduray and friend Jeff, David Jolly and Mary Lou DeYoung, Barbara, Matthew and Scott Schaper and Janet and Bill Foltz prepared, served a meal to our neighbors in Waukegan.  Desserts were provided by Sybil, Schapers, Foltz, Jean Schwarz, Cyndi Millspaugh, Mary Keller, Karen Nicholas, Pat Carrol, Carol Porter and Lisa Halpin.  Many thanks to Janet Foltz for the pre work marinating and cooking 40 lbs of chicken and making cornbread!  Our next turn to serve is Sunday, November 17th,  If you haven't experienced this ministry, add it to your list of things to do.

DON’T BE SCAMMED BY EMAIL – CAREFULLY CHECK THE SENDING ADDRESS!

I need urgent help! Please send gift cards! Sound familiar? A great deal of email scams pretend to be clergy in need of help.

They say that your priest needs urgent help of some variety and ask you to respond quickly. When you do, your email gets a

virus. I promise, I will call or text you if I need urgent help – and will NEVER email you to ask you to buy gift cards

urgently. PLEASE check the sending email address – the only one I use for church business is anne@stgregoryschurch.org

even if it is similar, it is not me. If you have received a suspicious email and responded to it, please change your email

password right away. Always, always, always look at the sending email address. When in doubt, do not respond via email.

I’m so sorry these keep happening, and unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to prevent it – we can only be alert and not

respond. – Anne+

VESTRY MEETING NEWS

The Vestry met on September 10:

Shelley Byrnes attended our Vestry meeting and shared an amazing plan for many activities at our Fall Pumpkin Patch.  It starts earlier this year, with the delivery of the pumpkins scheduled for Sunday September 29 at 4:30pm.  The Vestry is asking for as many volunteers as possible to help unload the truck and sign up for shifts to sell the pumpkins. You can sign up on line or use the sheet in Founder’s Hall. Pizza will be served after the unloading. More details to follow about the fun events at the Patch.

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE SALLY CRAIG MEMORIAL LIBRARY

The Sally Craig Memorial Library has three new books by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry: The Power of Love, Crazy Christians, and Songs My Grandma Sang.  He is a powerful writer and the books are wonderful. We have two copies of each, so don't hesitate to come check them out.   Also new in the library is Meredith Woods Potter's book - written with her son Willis - about the Woods family's history, beginning with their Quaker origins.  It's a fascinating read for all, especially for those who know and love Meredith.  The books are displayed on the shelf just inside the door.

TRAVEL TOILETRY DONATIONS NEEDED

Thanks to travel toiletry donations made by St. Gregory's parishioners, guests have been able to receive personal care packs at the Community Meal program in Waukegan. Please continue to donate unused toiletry items in the box located in Founders Hall by the Eagle Scout plaques. Thank you for your help!
